At 64 and being an avid independent voter for 40 years, voting both democratic and Republican I can honestly say I feel politics have fallen to an all time low in this Country. Since when do we rake a 16 year old child over the coals because her Mother is running for VP. Shame on the media, Shame on NBC, ABC CBS, CNN and all of them. This is a disgrace for our Country. Does anyone not care that the whole world os weighing in on this, not only seeing us as a pack of wolves but also laughing at just how stupid we are. Show me just one family in this Country that hasn’t had some kind of trouble with teenage children. Having 4 Kids myself, 15 grandkids and 6 great grandkids, not to mention living 64 years I can tell you there are none. There are a lot of them out there that won’t admit it but somewhere in their family there is at least one.
Since when do we use candidates kids for political fodder, Always before candidates kids were off limits. It was clearly stated by the media during the Clinton run for President that Cheksea was off limits and I respected that. She was!!!!!!!!!!
People, this is just wrong. That child has done nothing to warrant this kind of scruntiny. She made a mistake. We all do when we are kids, Some get caught and some don’t. Heaven knows most of the guys never get caught. All these “journalist”(??)have probaly done more than this child has. I wonder if they were investigated what kind of things we would find on them or their famalies. I think they need to be ask!!
I was sickened watching the Today Show this morning. Matt Lauer wouldn’t even let his guest answer a question he ask before talking over the top of his own guest and asking another one. He was like a rabid animal foaming at the mouth.
The is truly a sad time we are in.

jsteele Tuesday, September 2nd at 12:29PM EDT (link)There are times when I am absolutely amazed that any Republican manages to get elected, let alone hold the WH as many times as we do — a tribute to the usually inate good sense of the American people over the leftwing media.
In any given election, I figure the Republican has a 10-15 point media-created hurdle to overcome just to stay even with the Democrat.

I wholeheartedly agree!
ZootSuit Tuesday, September 2nd at 12:30PM EDT (link)And you know, I honestly believe that if Barack Obama came out STRONGLY against the attacks on Bristol Palin, he would actually gain politically. But the MSM and the Left (again, I repeat myself) have decended so far on the scale of moral decency that I think that is impossible.

NY Daily News
dld1717 Tuesday, September 2nd at 12:35PM EDT (link)The NY Daily news has pics of Palin’s gaughter getting off a school bus.
Can you imagine the media went to a school and snapped photos of a young girl to smear her?

Time to face reality
dalancroft Tuesday, September 2nd at 1:34PM EDT (link)1) Bristol Palin’s pregnancy is relevant on two fronts: First, because her mother is about to embark on a journey that could effectively remove her as an involved parent (and grandparent) for as many as eight long years. And second, because the parents stressed abstinence, which all credible studies have debunked as ineffective. Amy Carter didn’t get pregnant during Carter’s campaign or presidency; neither did Chelsea Clinton.
2) That whole “liberal media” bias is just such a tired canard. Fox News is completely biased toward the right. Now that Murdoch owns the Wall St. Journal, so are all his properties.
Bottom line: Palin holds paleolithic views that will be proven over time to be on the wrong side of history.
P.S. I’m a libertarian and so have no dog in this fight.

Clinton's Adultery vs. Pregnancy of the Palin Daughter
Strelnikov Tuesday, September 2nd at 1:52PM EDT (link)If Billy Jeff Clinton’s adultery was “personal” and had “nothing to do” with day-to-day operations of the White House, how is the pregnancy of Palin’s daughter relevant?
Because the media says so.
Do we expect fairness really?
No.
Was Clinton’s adultery relevant?
Yes!!!
Clinton’s adultery in fact was QUITE RELEVANT: imagine the blackmailing possibilities and the risk to national security if any foreign power knew of the idiocy going on between him and Lewinsky.
But the media told us that was all nonsense, and to use Orwellian DoubleThink to cleanse our minds of any contradictions and fear.
It is nearly 3:00 P.M. and Drudge has a large list of the attacks now coming from the Media against Palin, including a number on her daughter on the front page of the New York Slimes.
Is the teenage pregnancy relevant?
No.
But it will be, because the media says so!

Exactly what my dad said...
kat Tuesday, September 2nd at 1:54PM EDT (link)My dad is a Republican, but not overly political. My mother and I are very involved in politics, so it was refreshing for him to adamantly say, “Name me one of those politicians or journalists that could go back 2 or 3 generations and not have one of their family members in this exact situation. When they can prove that, MAYBE they can pass judgment.”
No one in either of my families can throw a stone - this happened to one of each one of my parents siblings. Both chose life and I am thankful because I am lucky to have wonderful cousins.
Something that makes me laugh is that all of the “liberals” are having a fit about this - immoral, etc. These are the same folks that thought Juno was the greatest movie of last year. They also are the ones who don’t really believe in the need to get married. Domestic partner anyone? Most of my friends that are liberal have, at one time or another, lived with a member of the opposite sex. Many have given birth to children out of wedlock and saw nothing wrong with it at the time. Hypocrites!

"And second, because the parents stressed abstinence, which all credible studies have debunked as ineffective"
Jeff_Emanuel Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:04PM EDT (link)Your next action on this site will be to provide even one link to a “credible study” that shows any human in history save the Virgin Mary getting pregnant by practicing abstinence — i.e., by not having sex.
That is not a request — it is a requirement.

It is appalling!
AnnieR58 Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:06PM EDT (link)When I went to Memeorandum this a.m., I couldn’t believe what I saw. It looked like the National Enquirer cover on steroids.
I, too, have voted both parties over the years. This year I will do what I’ve done only one other time in my life: vote a straight ticket. And it will be the Republican straight ticket (as it was the last time). I have such a bitter taste in my mouth after following the race since last fall: the conduct of the Democrats, the Obamedia, and now the disgusting tactics used to undermine Palin. I cheered and danced around the house when McCain chose her. And I believe what we are seeing now is panic and desperation in Obamaland. But for the media to join in and go after Bristol Palin is beneath contempt.
We have a teen, and it seems he makes it his business to defy what we have taught him over the years. They reach a certain age and we hope they survive and let consequences be the teacher.
I hope that the electorate is smarter than what the media gives us credit for, and rejects this attempt at getting their empty suit elected.
"the wrong side of history"
kyle8 Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:07PM EDT (link)You mean personal integrity, marriage and monogamy? Don’t pull the libertarian canard on me. Any real libertarian would be saying it is not pertinent for state schools to teach any sort of sex program to children, which is my view.
People can have ideals and still fall short of them, or they can be democrats and never be accused of hypocrisy because no one expects them to have any morals to begin with.

Humpty Dumpty Media
Strelnikov Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:08PM EDT (link)Agreed, but the hypocrisy of the media will never be exposed because of who runs the media.
They are Humpty Dumpty: whatever they say a word means, so shall it be!
Whatever they hypocritically claim is the truth, will become the truth, and hypocrisy cannot possibly be invovled.
This is the Main Reason we should really fear a Democrat,Big Brobama ascendance: basic Freedom of Speech will be attacked.
Higher taxes will be nothing in comparison!

This is facing reality?
Letters Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:08PM EDT (link)You claim that Bristol’s pregnancy is relevant “because her mother is about to embark on a journey that could effectively remove her as an involved parent (and grandparent) for as many as eight long years.” So I can assume, then, that if Obama’s daughter were a little older and found to be with child, then you would say the same thing?? That if Joe Biden was about to be a new grandpa he should drop out, too??
You next claim it is relevant “because the parents stressed abstinence, which all credible studies have debunked as ineffective.” So if Palin had instead “stressed safe sex,” and Bristol still got pregnant, what would you say then?
“Amy Carter didn’t get pregnant during Carter’s campaign or presidency; neither did Chelsea Clinton.” Uh, ok.
You also say that the “whole ‘liberal media’ bias is just such a tired canard. Fox News is completely biased toward the right.” First of all, Fox is by far the most balanced of all the networks. It’s not even close. But I’ll play along. Let’s assume that Fox News is “completely biased.” What about NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, NYT, WaPo, etc, etc.?? The fact that Fox News exists hardly renders media bias a “tired candard.”
You then sum up thusly: “Palin holds paleolithic views that will be proven over time to be on the wrong side of history.” I literally have no idea what this means.

Cold hearted, untouchable politicians

So did I, To me it makes these people more real like the average American, It makes them touchable and not more untouchable cold hearted, anything for the party and tax, tax, tax as long as we get our retirement for the rest of our life even if we serve only one term politician.
Exactly
AnnieR58 Tuesday, September 2nd at 3:49PM EDT (link)The political commentators and professional pols live in a bubble, and don’t “get” regular folk. My husband prefers my political commentary…he says I have insight and often turn out to be correct in my assessment.
You are correct in yours…especially “anything for party” and “as long as we get our retirement”. When Palin spoke that first day, I was very impressed. I think she is exactly what we need, and a great asset to McCain.
As Predicted Privacy/Freedom of Speech Violations
Strelnikov Tuesday, September 2nd at 8:42PM EDT (link)Wow! The Democrats have wasted no time in violating privacy with this release of Palin’s personal information.
Get used to it if BigBrobama wins: Gov. Palin needs to point out the Stalinistic nature of BigBrobama never authorizing anything, but somehow the dirty work always gets done.
And use the name Stalin: what do we have to lose? If the mustache fits, glue it on them!
Read Solzhenitsyn’s GULAG Archipelago to find out more about the technique of letting subordinates commit crimes for you without any direct authorization.
Next prediction: school records/report cards of her children, and the military record of her son will be released.
Illegalities will soon be hinted at about her husband’s fishing business.
To be followed by: such a person from an eccentric state like Alaska just cannot be considered mainstream!

As a southerner,
hotnoggin Saturday, September 6th at 9:41AM EDT (link)I sympathize with her placing her daughter’s dilemma off limits. I think it should be off-limits.
But I also think that if it’s such a private matter, then she shouldn’t have parade her pregnant child on national t.v. with her “baby-daddy.”
