It's been a hectic few days for Harry the Dolt, but his priorities have become abundantly clear: Soldiers are no big deal...there's no rush to help them...what matters is taxing big oil and lining the pockets of rich farmers.
As I mentioned here, our Warfighters are being held hostage over Reid and Pelosi's power struggle with the President. I also mentioned here that these clowns are willing to let Soldiers go unpaid unless and until they got all their own little shiny objects thrown in to the supplemental...which, by the way is an emergency supplemental spending bill that hasn't gotten done for over 440 days (and counting).
More below the fold...
Piling on now, 'ol Harry boy stiffs the rest of us via his bonny-new Energy bill and tells us it's good for us (slapping the President around a little to make us feel better about getting the shaft from Congress...again):
“Democrats are committed to protecting consumers, increasing our energy independence, strengthening our economy and reducing global warming emissions. After the immigration debate, I will move forward with an energy bill that protects consumers against high gas prices, punishes price-gougers and increases our supply of American-made biofuels. For too long, this Administration has made it a priority to give tax breaks to oil and gas companies even as prices have doubled and profits have soared. We believe it is past time to move our national security, economic and environmental priorities ahead of oil industry profits.”
[thumb in mouth, assuming rocking fetal position, looking for my happy place]
Let's see if we have this right...increase taxes (which will drive up prices for consumers), demand more biofuels [including ethanol] that will drive UP the demand for corn and other farm products (which will drive up prices for consumers), and demand reductions in "global warming" emissions [that will in many cases require high-dollar factory retrofits] (which will drive up prices for consumers)...oh, and "George Bush sucks"...
Did I mention he's going to give farmers 300 BILLION dollars to make stuff like corn at lower cost to themselves so that they can charge us MORE for it?
Attaboy, Harry-who are you going after next?

Reid is done in the Senate-the Clintons will take another prize, although my only doubt about this is that she will be fighting with Uncle Teddy for power on the Dems side. She may be more ferocious, but I still don't think she'll be able to be a Hammer as long as Teddy's in the Senate, which is until he kicks the bucket. But that'll be a pass the popcorn kind of fun for us :-)
Joliphant Earl of Nacho has decreed that popcorn is banned...We now have Beer and Chips when we watch the Dems.....No suspension ...Carry on

from Hillary being Majority Leader. Can you imagine the animosity between her and Pelosi? It's got to make good old Nance flinch in her sleep to imagine the scenarios upcoming if this does indeed happen. Payback's a b....h. Pun possibly intended.

NOT!!
Give me a brigade of C17wives and I'll clean up the Middle East before an antipasto prior to flushing Congressional Democrats down the putrid commode they have made of Congress and the legislative processes.

Good work!

Rush will need to launch a sequel to operation chaos to help Reid stay majority leader. Let's call it, operation spineless.
Ask not what I can do for my country, ask what my country can do for me. Washington Elected Elite
Harry Reid's message to anyone who isn't harry Reid.
What will be really astounding is when the polls show exactly how many morons believe this guy.
Haystack's summation of the effects of Reid's lunacy are not only dead-on accurate, but also pretty much common sense. That there are people who lack it enough to think they're getting a deal (those people are called "Obama supporters" by the way) really makes me fear for the educational status of future generations.
.
everything comes at us through the media in slices...there are many many people that see the issues one at a time, not as they pile up together in one big jumbled mess...
So long as they can sell individual pieces of legislation as "getting" somebody they already spent months convincing you is "bad" somehow, far too many people gobble it up like candy, assuming theyre getting the BETTER end of the shaft.

I can't find the photograph through the link. Perhaps I'm just not looking thoroughly, but I've tried.
Do you have some context for it?

and pulled out of context for illustrative purposes. I'm fairly certain that Mr. Reid did not actually flip anyone off as he discussed these policies.
It does, however, perfectly illustrate what's happening. Reid's little pet bills here are a big F---you to soldiers and working Americans.
.
If you roll the whole tape, you'll see that he's about to scratch his face;)

The link I provide in the piece is their NEW dotcom address-I was just randomly googling for an appropriate pic of Reid for the post, and that came out of nowhere-likely photoshopped, but says what I wanted it to say.

haystack, I love where your heart's at (god, I hate Dingy Harry), but I have to disagree with one concept presented above. The Farm Bill is absolutely loaded with pork and pays little to no benefit to large-scale family farmers. This particular line of thought is a bugaboo of mine, and I gotta say, most casual commenters and observers of agriculture do not understand the dynamics and operations of a large farm. I cast no aspersions on anyone's character or knowledge, and I presume from your blogger name that you are from some kind of rural area. Suffice it to say that I am very qualified to speak on this matter. If anyone actually cares, I'd be happy to fill the pieces in with a diary.
Just a typical, small town, white girl...
there is truth in the facts of the numbers of large conglomerates that own a lot of the smaller farms you defend...there is pork, yes-but subsidies are bad-be they farms or anything else-imho
let the market forces dictate.
I would like to see such a diary though-I am certainly no expert...I only have a small "ranch" with horses and a modest garden...though I know small farmers, and they don't fully agree with your thoughts here

Just finished. Go check it out and let 'er rip. I guess the best way to find it is in the Recent Blogs sidebar. It's my first blog here, so I'm new to the deal.

Why are we funding the war through "emergency supplementals"?
What is the "emergency"?
We had an emergency on 9-11.
You could even argue that the initial invasion of Iraq or even the surge were "emergencies."
But the continuing funding of the War on Terror, year after year, through "emergency supplementals," is a kind of legislative magician's trick to try to conceal the true cost of the war.
We didn't fund World War II or Vietnam that way.
Oh wait, yeah we did...but back then they would never have DREAMED of holding active combat soldiers hostage to get pork and earmarks for their little special interest friends...

WW2 was a war, in fact, the last war we were in. Our constitution requires congress' approval to declare war.
On that subject, we need to get back to the intent of the constitution as it speaks to the military. Our country was founded on the idea of a milita for defense.
In context this means not having a large paid volunteer standing army. In fact our forefathers didn't like the concept of such.
If our military wasn't made up of volunteers, it would be much more difficult to invade any country. In fact, it would require a draft, and so an act of congress. The litmus test to send our sons and daughters to war would be that the country would have to stand behind the idea. (like WW2)
But Nixon proved this point, and ever since the Neo Cons have moved toward removing this system of checks and balances. That way when we needed to invade for profit, we could do it. As they were diabolically smart enough to realize the congress and country would re-enact the draft just for Exxon.
Our founding fathers really were wise. We just need to listen to them.
Draft Republicans.
>>>Wow! Knock me over w/ a frikken' broom. Is the mmon a celestial object?
SO you seriously think Richard Nixon and a Neo-Con cabal removed the draft as a nefarious plot to enhance their executive powers?
If so, why wasn't Iran turned into a flattened pancake about 5 days after our embassy was taken hostage? Exxon was probably wondering where its Senators and Representatives were on that one.
"I believe we must adjourn this meeting to some other place." - The last recorded words of Adam Smith.
Without question.
The backlash from Viet Nam was essentially due to young people protesting the draft. Many of the protests were masked as "opposing an unjust police action" but it gained support and steam from parents who didn't want thier kids to og, and young people who were faced with going.
Now, the change over wasn't overnight. It was systematic though. Moving to a large standing army of volunteers, allows the executive branch to avoid the constitutional obligation of declaring war, while still being able to wage it.
Is there any doubt that we're in a war in Iraq?
Is it odd that we never declared war on Iraq?
A small standing military for homeland defense, and a "militia" (or draft in modern terms) ensures we don't invade or go to war without the backing of the country.
So, I'm sure there are plenty of conservatives here who believe in the constitution and it's tenants.
Prove this point wrong.
Draft Republicans.
As close as I can tell, you are saying that the current tenants
of the Constitution are the Executive branch (that is to say, we
the people, who are the landlords of the White House, have as
tenants the current occupants of the White House).
I would hazard a guess that there are many, many conservatives
that do not agree with the aforementioned "tenants of the
Constitution". I haven't proven you wrong, but am merely
suggesting an avenue where that might happen.
Now, you might have meant "tenets" instead of "tenants", but
then your comment takes on a whole different meaning...

You heard it here first, Hillary for Majority leader.
God help us all because she will be much more effective than this idiot.
