Pardon me while I spoil the innocent enjoyment taken in the Daily Show by a certain percentage of its demographic.

I could gussy this up with random blathering:
...but why bother? This beatdown from Stewart clocks in at just under four minutes, and is all the better for its ostensible cheeriness. It won't decide the election, but it will make you at least chuckle. Which is fine for a Tuesday morning.

PS: To those either scowling at the end of this clip, or just being gritted-teeth good sports about the whole thing, please accept our reassurances: we're not laughing with you.

Posted at 12:20am on Apr. 13, 2008 Will The Real Fake News Stand Up?
By absentee
The Huffington Post has a blog up touting a segment from The Daily Show about Fox News, which the blogger finds both eviscerating and stunning.
The comments section is equally effusive. Though commenters repeatedly, rapturously gurgle over how funny the show and the "documentary" are, it is unclear if anyone gets the humor in their taking this comedy show as news, in a story supposedly about biased news.
"Without a doubt the best minds in the media," bubbles one. "That is the best and funniest and most accurate news segment I have seen in about 8 years," beams another.
One outraged commenter bests them all. "It's insane that Faux has been allowed to classify themselves as a News outlet, they are not." (In case you're not up to speed on hipster lingo, Faux is the oh-so-clever nickname for Fox.) This commenter can barely control the frothing anger about Fox being called news. But the fact that thousands of left-wingers willingly allow a comedy show to serve as news? That they brag about it being their news? In fact, that it's the besty best best news EVAH!!1!!1!
That doesn't seem to bother the commenters at all, or Rachel Sklar. Or, one might guess, Jon Stewart.
"If you watch the news and don't like it, then this is your counter program to the news." - Jon Stewart
"News (n): a report of a recent event; intelligence; information." - The Dictionary
You know Jon, I agree. You are counter to the news.
